Endowment to Explore State of Logging Industry

The Endowment and the Forest Resources Association are convening a group of the nation’s top logging sector professionals, academicians, equipment manufacturers and others January 30-31, 2008, in Atlanta. The goal is to tee-up discussions about the state of the log harvesting and transportation sectors in America. “While most forest lands in America are owned by individuals, perhaps only one or two in ten of those owners call on the services of a forester when they decide to harvest,” said Endowment President Carlton Owen, “Yet, ten in ten use the services of a logger.” A healthy timber harvesting sector, one equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, manned by well trained operators conducting their affairs in environmentally-sensitive ways plays a vital part in ensuring forest health and in efficiently delivering raw materials to production facilities. As a result of this session the Endowment hopes to better define a specific course of action for its engagement in ways that might address gaps or needs in this arena.
