ENDOWMENT ANNOUNCES SPEAKERS FOR INAUGURAL FIRz EVENT

A Forum For Innovation About Forests, Forest Products, And Forest-Rich Communities

U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, Greenville, SC

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE (August 21, 2019) The U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities (Endowment) is pleased to share the agenda and speakers for the first annual Forest Innovation Reviews (FIRz) to be held Wednesday, September 18, 2019. FIRz is a forum for innovative ideas for solving some of today’s most significant natural resources challenges. This inaugural FIRz event creates a space for presenting well-formed ideas about forests, forest management, forest products, and forest-rich communities, conveyed through short, powerful talks.

Innovative thinkers will gather for a day of breakthrough thinking and sharing about the greatest challenges — and potential solutions — that face forests and forest health. Selected speakers will share ideas about collaborative efforts around cellulosic nano-technology, scoping out vast forest landscapes from a bird’s eye view, unlocking the secret to eliminating illegal logging globally, understanding the potential role of “future forests” in data-driven markets, and much more.

“Folks won’t want to miss this event; the first of its kind,” said Endowment President and CEO Carlton Owen. “Threats to our forests, their health and productivity have never been greater, and they are growing. Traditional solutions can’t keep pace. FIRz is the nation’s first forum for surfacing the best new ideas for the health and future of our forests and our planet. We expect that over time, FIRz will emerge as the signature annual event for unearthing innovation and revolutionary thinking in all of these areas.”

Each FIRz presentation will be professionally filmed for release to the general public before year-end.
