Alan McGregor of Asheville, NC has worked with nonprofit organizations for 35 years.  Over that time, he has been a leading voice in the American South for connecting philanthropy to community-based organizations and rural communities.  Mr. McGregor was a co-founder and staff member of the Southern Rural Development Initiative (SRDI) where he served as Director of Philanthropic Programs and Executive Director and specialized in rural philanthropy and asset-based rural development.  Prior to joining the SRDI, Mr. McGregor was the Executive Director of The Sapelo Foundation, a family foundation serving Georgia’s rural communities and environmental organizations.  He was also a founder and first Executive Director of the Fund for Southern Communities, a public foundation dedicated to supporting grassroots organizations in the Carolinas and Georgia.  He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
